USB-C Basics
USB-C is just the connector shape. What it carries depends on the protocol: USB 2.0 (slow data), USB 3.1/3.2 (fast data), Thunderbolt 4 (fastest), and Power Delivery (charging speed).
Cables: What to Look For
- For charging only: any quality braided cable
- For data transfer: USB 3.2 minimum (10 Gbps)
- For video output: Thunderbolt-rated cable
- For fast laptop charging: 100W PD rated
Hubs: The Essentials
A good USB-C hub should have: USB-A ports, HDMI out, SD card reader, ethernet, and pass-through charging. 4K display support if you have one.
Chargers: Watch the Wattage
- Phones: 20–30W
- Tablets: 30–45W
- Laptops: 65–100W
- USB-C GaN chargers are smaller and more efficient than older chargers
What to Avoid
