The Annual Digital Declutter Checklist That Keeps Your Devices Fast
Digital clutter is just as mentally draining as physical clutter. A thorough digital declutter once a year keeps your devices fast, your mind clear, and your data secure.
Phone (2 hours)
- Delete every app you haven't used in 3 months
- Clear all streaming caches (Settings for each app)
- Review and delete downloaded files
- Back up photos, then clear camera roll of duplicates and blurry shots
- Unsubscribe from any app notifications you always dismiss
Email (1 hour)
- Unsubscribe from every newsletter you don't read (use Unroll.me or do it manually)
- Delete all promotional emails in bulk
- Archive everything older than 3 months into one folder
- Create 3 folders: Action, Waiting, Reference
Computer (2 hours)
- Empty Trash / Recycle Bin
- Clear Downloads folder
- Remove duplicate files (use a duplicate finder app)
- Uninstall software you haven't opened in 6 months
- Clear browser bookmarks of dead links
- Update all software
Cloud Storage (30 minutes)
- Delete duplicate files in Google Drive / iCloud / Dropbox
- Remove shared files no longer needed
